Biography: Mohini Aras, MD is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital.  Dr. Aras cares for patients with obesity and weight-related medical complications at the Comprehensive Weight Control Center within the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She received her BEng from the University of California- Berkeley and her MD from State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University.  Dr. Aras completed both her residency in Internal Medicine and her Obesity Medicine fellowship at WCMC/NYP. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine.  She is a member of The Obesity Society and gives lectures and publishes peer-reviewed articles on Obesity Medicine and weight management.

Biography: Dr. Lisa Kalik earned her undergraduate degree at Duke University with a BS in psychology in 1999. She went to medical school at New York University (NYU) finishing in 2004 and then completed her internal medicine residency training there in 2007.   Dr. Kalik went on two medical missions with Doctors without Borders in 2007 and 2008, spending 6 months in a South Sudan hospital treating patients with Human African Trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) and three months in Nigeria responding to measles and meningitis outbreaks. Shortly after her travels to Africa, she went to Chinle, Arizona for two months and worked in a hospital and clinic on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Since her return to New York in 2009 and prior to joining Weill Cornell Medicine in 2020, she practiced general internal medicine first at NYU Internal Medicine Associates and then at Medical Offices of Manhattan.   Dr. Kalik currently lives in Long Island City with her husband and two children.

Care Philosophy: I am a nephrologist with a specialization in hypertension. My field of interest is obstetric nephrology. My practice and research endeavors focus on the care of women with hypertension and/or kidney disease who are currently pregnant or planning to be pregnant. Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disease of pregnancy that can have devastating effects on mother and child. Although this syndrome dates back to the times of Hippocrates, modern medicine has yet to fully understand all of its mechanisms to be able to stop them. At the Weill Cornell Hypertension Center, our reseearch team studies women with hypertension during pregnancy in order to help shed more light into possible biomarkers, mechanisms and therapies for preeclampsia. Pregnancy, especially when it is complicated by hypertension and/or kidney disease, can be a very trying time. Our philosophy is to partner with the obstetricians to help our patients with compassionate and state-of-the-art care.

Biography: Dr. Robert Fakheri completed his undergraduate, summa cum laude with double major in Biology and Chemistry, and medical school with Honors at New York University (NYU). He then also completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at NYU. Prior to joining Weill Cornell Medicine in 2018, Dr. Fakheri served as faculty for NYU School of Medicine and practiced as a hospitalist. In this position, Dr. Fakheri played an integral role in clinical education for medical students and trainees while also caring for acutely ill and complex patients admitted at NYU hospital. In addition to education and clinical care, Dr. Fakheri is also a distinguished author in the medical literature with multiple peer-reviewed publications on a variety of topics including climate impact on kidney stones, comparative effectiveness of blood pressure medications, use of biomarkers for evaluating infections, treatment and prevention of constipation, risk stratification for heart disease, and vitamin D supplementation. Furthermore, Dr. Fakheri has been highly regarded as a speaker, providing Grand Rounds talks at other medical centers. Biography: Dr. Savard received her A.B. cum laude from Harvard University. She received her MD with Distinction in Humanities from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed her board certified training in Family Medicine with added qualifications in Public Health at the University of New Mexico. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Savard joins Weill Cornell after working in the public health and the foster care systems and most recently, in an integrative private practice that she founded. She believes in integrating various healing therapies with allopathic medicine and in providing evidence-based, compassionate care. Her practice includes adult medicine, women's health and pediatric care. Dr. Savard joined Weill Cornell in 2018 as Assistant Attending in Pediatrics and Medicine and the medical director of the Long Island City site.

Biography: Dr. Mark S. Pecker is an Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center (NYPH-WCMC) and is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and a Professor of Clinical Medicine in Physiology and Biophysics at Weill Cornell Medical College. He received his MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1977 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Affiliated Hospitals, where he served as Chief Resident.  He is certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College Physicians.Dr. Pecker is an American Society of Hypertension Hypertension Specialist with expertise in autonomic dysfunction, aortic dissection and secondary and endocrine hypertension. Dr. Pecker has a passion for medical training.  He served as the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at NYPH-WCMC for 15 years.  He remains active in teaching residents and medical students in New York, as well as at Hamad General Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.  He helps supervise the yearly International Case Discussion Summer School in Munich, Germany, in coordination with the medical faculties of the Technical University of Munich and Ludwig Maxmillian University.At Weill Cornell he is an Associate Program Director of the Tri-Institution MD-PhD Program. Biography: Dr. Baker is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Attending Endocrinologist at Cornell Medical College in New York. He is a graduate of Emory University College and Medical School. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at New York University and a fellowship in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Baker, who himself has type 1 diabetes, has interests which include disease management through education and lifestyle interventions, prevention of type 1 diabetes, and the impact of diabetes on international health. Dr. Baker is involved in numerous global health diabetes projects, and has founded the non-profit organization "Marjorie's Fund" (www.marjoriesfund.org), a type 1 diabetes global initiative dedicated to education, care, and research of type 1 diabetes in the developing world. Dr. Baker also serves as a contributing author to The Medical Letter and contributing editor to dLife.com.

Biography: Dr. Asaf Cohen received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He obtained his MD degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Mount Sinai Beth Israel Residency in Urban Family Medicine in 2006. Dr. Cohen then practiced as a primary care physician and eventually also as a site medical director at Open Door, a federally qualified health center in Westchester County. He is board-certified in Family Medicine.Dr. Cohen is excited to provide comprehensive primary care to both adults and children of all ages.

Care Philosophy: The field of interventional cardiology is advancing rapidly, and there are numerous exciting therapies on the horizon. State-of-the-art technology and improvement in techniques allow effective management of patients with coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease with minimally invasive procedures. Care Philosophy: Dr. LaScalea completed his residency in Primary Care/Internal Medicine at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center. His strong interest in community affairs has led him to direct a crisis hotline while in college, as well as work as an educator in adolescent substance abuse prevention. Dr. LaScalea is also a winner of the 2001 Barbara Zucker Traveling Fellowship in Clinical Infectious Diseases. His travel to Africa has further inspired interest in international health.

Biography: Dr. Jamil was born and raised in Northern Virginia. She is the eldest daughter of first-generation Pakistani immigrants and the first person in her family to attend college and medical school. She majored in Biology with a minor in Religion and obtained her Bachelors of Science degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She went on to achieve her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC and completed her training in internal medicine at Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai in New York. Dr. Jamil is passionate about many aspects of primary care, primarily health promotion, management of chronic conditions, disease screening and prevention, and women’s health.

Biography: Dr. Lash was previously at LIJ-Albert Einstein College of Medicine as a Clinical Instructor of Medicine following her residency at Mt. Sinai. She has been at the Weill Cornell Medical Associates -- East Side Practice since 2003. Her clinical interests focus around healthy lifestyle maintenance.

Biography: Dr. Mulhern received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University. She then went on to study animal behavior and ecology at the University of California at Berkeley where she completed a Masters degree. She returned to the east coast to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where she received her MD degree. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, in 1998, and has been working as a general internist in Manhattan since completion of her training.

Biography: Dr. Margaret Hoffman went to Harvard College and graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA receiving her MD in 1993. Her Internship and Residency were at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Brighton, MA and the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, MA. Dr. Hoffman was on Senior Clinical Staff and a Junior Attending at the Lahey Hitchcock Clinic prior to coming to Weill Cornell Medicine in 1998. Her interests are in women's health and preventive medicine. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

Care Philosophy: My approach to patient care is to listen to the patient intently and to commit my full attention to the patient's concerns. Very often the diagnosis becomes clear just from patient input and information. My main areas of interests include hepatitis and biliary problems. Inflammatory bowl disease is growing concern in Brooklyn, and HIV afflictions in our community and its impact on the bowel is a challenge to our speciality.

Biography: Dr. Oza is originally from Princeton, New Jersey. She went to New York University where she studied Psychology and Spanish in addition to her pre-med studies. She attended Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where she participated in a student-run clinic that served the uninsured patient population in New Brunswick, NJ. She went on to complete her residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with a focus on Primary Care. Her clinical interests include diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disease. In her spare time, Dr. Oza enjoys reading, traveling, and exploring new restaurants.

Biography: Donnie Beaubrun, MD, is an internist at New York-PresbyterianMedical Group Brooklyn, affiliated with New York-Presbyterian BrooklynMethodist Hospital. Biography: Alphonso Scotti was born and raised in New York City.  He spent years in biomedical research prior to graduating from Touro College PA program in 2006.  He trained at Beth Israel Medical Center where he started his career in Emergency Medicine.  Alphonso relocated to Sag Harbor, NY where he has been practicing Urgent Care and Primary Care.  Mr. Scotti has particular interests in preventative and integrative medicine as well as treating his patients urgent care needs.

Biography: Irina Rimel graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 1998. She completed her internship at Elmhurst Hospital providing treatments in both inpatient and outpatient medical settings. She has completed her Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, is licensed in New York State and is certified in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).For the past 17 years Irina provided acupuncture treatments at Mount Sinai St Luke’s and Mount Sinai West Hospitals in the outpatient and inpatient clinical settings

Biography: Dr. Sidney Stein completed his B.A. degree at  New York University-University College in 1972.  He received his medical degree from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center in 1979.  Dr. Stein is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein Medical College where he has held that position since 1994.  He was elected as a member of the Medical Board of Beth Israel Medical Center in 1990 and still currently serves in that position.   He also served as President of the Board in 2001 and 2002. Dr. Stein was named in New York Magazine's Best Doctor List from 2001-2008.

Biography: Dr. Emy grew up in the Bronx. He studied History and Literature at Harvard College and received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed residency training at Montefiore Medical Center. Following several itinerant years of locum tenens assignments, he realized that there truly is no place like home and returned to New York City, where he practices general internal medicine. He feels it is important to treat and understand the whole person on the basis of the best available evidence and takes interest in all areas of internal medicine.

Biography: Dr. Charles L. Bardes graduated from Princeton University (summa cum laude) in 1978 and from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1986.  He completed his Internal Medicine Residency training at The New York Hospital (now known as NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital) in 1989.  He has served on the medical center's faculty since that time and teaches at Weill Cornell Medical College, having served as Associate Dean (Admissions) for 21 years.   In addition to numerous awards for teaching and clinical care, he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha and a fellow of both The American College of Physicians and the New York Academy of Medicine.  He also serves as associate editor for the Journal of General Internal Medine and The Blood Project.

Biography: Danielle Nicolo, M.D., Ph.D. graduated from the University of Delaware and performed research in the Biotechnology industry prior to her career in medicine. She then earned a Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology at Temple University with a focus on Cardiology and Autoimmunity. She received an M.D. degree from Temple University and also completed her residency there in 2009. Dr. Nicolo performed her fellowship training in Cardiology at the Weill Cornell Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital. She has published several original papers as well as a textbook chapter on Cardiology and Autoimmunity. She was recognized by the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology with a Trainee Award for Excellence in 2011. Dr. Nicolo specializes in Preventive Cardiology with a focus on providing excellent, individualized care to address and prevent cardiovascular disease in both men and women. Dr. Nicolo is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
